LGBT+ GEM

GEM is committed to providing a safe, free from harassment, productive and welcoming environment for all. This includes respectful treatment of everyone regardless of sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, age, body size, race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, level of experience, political affiliation, as well as any other characteristics protected under state or federal law.

A grassroots effort within the GEM community has established an LGBT+ community that has gathered for an annual Queer Beers event during the summer workshop since 2018. In an effort to support the LGBT+ community within GEM, we also want to provide the resources below for anyone interested. If you know of additional resources that could be added, please reach out to the GEM organizers to add them to this page.

Out in STEM (oSTEM): A professional organization for LGBTQ+ people in the STEM community, oSTEM has scholarship opportunities, a collection of LGBTQ+ and academic resources, and an annual conference designed as a safe space for attendees to share professional and personal experiences.

LGBT+ Physicists: A resource website dedicated to gender and sexual minority (GSM) physicists. This website provides a directory of publicly-out LGBTQ+ physicists across the nation for networking and mentorship opportunities, resources to enhance inclusivity in universities and laboratories, and media on the state of inclusivity in physics.
